Doyle Lawson
Doyle Lawson was born in 1944 in Sullivan County, TN. As far back as he can remember, he loved the sound of music. Just about everyone listened to The Grand Ole Opry, and his family was no exception. Though he listened to all the stars on the Opry, the group that impressed him most was Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys. Monroe’s music was different, more intense. High lonesome is the term they used for it. Doyle could hardly wait for Saturday nights to arrive so he could listen, and he decided early on that he wanted to play that kind of music for a living. He knew that only playing one instrument was somewhat limiting, so he made it a point to learn how to play the mandolin, banjo and guitar, too. After several years of playing with Jimmy Martin, J D Crowe, and the Country Gentlemen, he wanted to put together a group that would have “his sound”.
To that end, in April 1979, Doyle formed Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and laid the foundation for what became the Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver sound. The makeup of the band changed many times over 40+ years, and Doyle jokingly told folks that Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver was the “farm team” for bluegrass. He integrated each member’s special talents into the group, while not sacrificing the Quicksilver sound. While the sound changed a bit with the introduction of each new band member, it was important that people hear what they expected to hear when they took the stage, no matter who was in the group. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver toured throughout the United States and most of the world. Doyle retired from full-time touring after 43 years at the end of 2021.
Carson Peters and Iron Mountain
Carson Peters and Iron Mountain has quickly become one of the most energetic and hottest bands in the business, making numerous trips to the Grand Ole Opry, multiple international appearances, and having countless songs on the bluegrass and bluegrass gospel charts. Their traditional style and A Cappella arrangements are a refreshing reminder that the bluegrass of old is alive and well. The band is made up of Carson Peters (21), from Piney Flats, TN, James McDowell (29), from Hendersonville, NC, Taylor Parks (21) from Bloxom, VA, Ethan Ratliff (23) from Honaker, VA, and Austin Tate (25) from Marion, VA. Carson and the band signed with Billy Blue Records in 2023, and are gearing up for the release of their 2nd album under the esteemed bluegrass label. The boys give God all the glory for allowing them to accomplish what they have so far, and trust His plan to guide them through the future.
